If I had to guesstimate, I'd say I put in about 20-25 hours on this (though it's probably less - I spent lots of small chunks of time working on it, not one long sitting.)
And it STILL doesn't feel finished.
I am mostly happy with it, though. My poor unloved Gustav model was sitting in pieces on my closet shelves,
still bearing its repulsive black and neon-green paint job from my first failure of a customization.
Having just recently bought some metallic Testors paints, I decided to go crazy on this guy.
As common as Gustavs are as workhorses of the Zoid set, I feel they don't get a lot of love (I mean, just think of how
many Ligers and wolf-types are out there hogging the spotlight) and I wanted to make one really stand out.
I used spare parts from a number of scrapped Zoid models, including Gordosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Elephander,
Pteramander, a small Shield Liger action figure, and a few more miscellaneous bits I can't recall belong to what.
I also used bits and bobs from a pocket watch, jewelry, scrapped computer parts,
battery-operated hand-held fans and God knows what else.
The stuff on the cargo haul are pieces of pyrite, a sexy shard of bismuth (the rainbow-y rock),
a plastic diamond, a customized matching gun, and a LEGO muffler/exhaust pipe with a matching color scheme.
I'm looking into adding some hints of grunge and articulation at the hinges and plating with dark paint/ink,
as well as tacking on other vents/hoses/gears to empty armor space.
For now, though, I bring you the Gustav Steampunk Special!
